What We Do

Direct Support

We stay in contact with detained migrants and their families through phone calls and visitation to better support their needs. Our actions are guided by the ideas and needs of directly affected people.

FRONTERIZO FIANZA FUND

DMSC started the Fronterizo Fianza Fund to help pay immigration bonds to get detained people free--this allows them to reunite with family, avoid exploitative bail bond lenders, and improve their chances in immigration court. Please visit FianzaFund.org to learn more and donate!

GUERRILLA TRANSLATION TEAM

We train and manage a remote translation team. We translate documents into English for people representing themselves in immigration court or receiving pro bono help, at no cost.

HELPING IMPACTED FAMILIES LOCATE LOVED ONES, FIND LEGAL SERVICES, AND DOCUMENT ABUSES

We cannot provide legal services ourselves but can connect detainees or their families to service providers. We seek to provide information when possible and help detainees and their loved ones fight for themselves. We help file administrative complaints and address abuses.

COMMISSARY FUNDS AND BOOK DRIVES

We make small deposits on detained individuals' commissary or telephone accounts so they can connect to the outside world and get needed items in detention. We also try to get books and magazines in languages other than English into detainees' hands.

Tracking Abuses

We track reports about abuses in the detention centers in El Paso and nearby areas in order to bring attention to them and advocate for change.

Advocacy

We engage with the community and service providers to build radical understanding about migrant detention, border militarization, and mass criminalization, and to advocate for those directly impacted. We aim to see a world where migrants are not criminalized and migrant detention is a thing of the past.
