How you can help Dreamers in the El Paso borderlands

After the Trump administration's announcement that DACA will be terminated, many people are looking for ways to support Dreamers. Here's a few ways you can help in El Paso!

HELP PAY FOR DACA RENEWALS

A huge number of DACA recipients are eligible to renew, but the costs are very high and must be paid by October 5. Our compañerxs at Education Not Deportation-UTEP are raising money to help with DACA renewal costs locally! You can contribute to the fund here.

You can also buy tickets from us for the El Paso Playhouse production of Real Women Have Curves on September 21 at 8:00pm! Proceeds will go towards END and Las Americas' efforts to get DACA renewals and advocate for migrants. Buy tickets online at the address below or contact us at DMSCelpaso@gmail.com to reserve your seats!

Additionally, the Mexican Consulate is offering to help pay for DACA renewals. They will hold an info session on September 19, 5:00pm at the Consulate (910 E San Antonio Ave). Call 1-855-463-6395 for more info.

A nationwide scholarship is available through the Mission Asset Fund, which will overnight a check to DHS for the renewal fee to be sent in with the renewal application. Click here for more info!

LEGAL SERVICES / INFO SESSIONS

EL PASO:

On September 30, our friends at the El Paso Queer Bar Association are holding a free citizenship and DACA fair. See image below for details. They need volunteers to help out (no experience necessary), so please contact them if interested!

LAS CRUCES/ANTHONY:

The NM Dream Team and other local groups are holding free DACA clinics where Dreamers can get help renewing. They will be in Anthony on September 23, 12:00-4:00pm, and in Las Cruces on September 29, 4:00-8:00pm. If you are interested in volunteering, there will be a prep night in Las Cruces on September 20, 5:00-7:00pm. Find more info on volunteering here!

TELL YOUR CONGRESSPEOPLE TO SUPPORT THE DREAM ACT AND #DEFUNDHATE!

DACA was never a permanent solution for undocumented youth. Demand that your legislators protect Dreamers by passing the DREAM Act (S.1615/H.R.3440) NOW!

Top Republicans are currently discussing attaching a watered-down DREAM Act to a larger "border security" bill (which would include funding for Trump's wasteful wall, more immigration detention centers, and additional personnel/supplies for corrupt agencies Border Patrol and ICE. Urge members of Congress to pass the DREAM Act ON ITS OWN and not give any more to Trump's hateful anti-immigrant agenda!

NOTE: Local reps Will Hurd (R-TX, his area includes El Paso County's Lower Valley) and Steve Pearce (R-Southern NM) are key targets of this campaign! Call Will Hurd at (202) 225-4511 / 915-235-6421. Call Steve Pearce at (202) 225-2365 / 855-4-PEARCE (732723).
