Fianza Fund Helps Free Man After Year Detained!
After fleeing his home country, a harrowing journey through Mexico, and over one year in one of the worst migrant camps in the country, Roberto Campos walked out of Adelanto Detention Facility into freedom late last night!
We partnered with Pueblo Sin Fronteras, UndocuMedia, Al Otro Lado, and Indivisible Morongo Basin to post Roberto's $3000 immigration bond through our new Fronterizo Fianza Fund and coordinate on the ground. Roberto will live with a supportive community in Southern California while he continues to fight his asylum case in court.
While he was still detained, Roberto once wrote, "I've often thought that it would have been better to die along the way, but ... I do not lose faith that I will leave this lockup ... When I leave here you can count on me for anything."
We're proud to support those who persevere in the face of a criminalization and incarceration. Please support the work of our partner groups and help us keep our fund growing! Donate to the fund at www.youcaring.com/DetaineeFundElPaso
(The taste of freedom: After leaving detention, the first thing Roberto wanted was a burger :D )
